How do you talk to your teenager about fasting? If you don’t feel comfortable doing so, if you don’t know what to say, or if you’re thinking, “oh, I didn’t know I was supposed to do that . . .” that’s perfectly fine! If we’re being honest, fasting is a spiritual habit that’s hard to understand and potentially dangerous if not handled correctly. So let’s talk about some ideas to explain fasting in a way that’s both healthy and useful to a teenager!

Technology. It’s our best friend and it’s our worst nightmare. We often find ourselves leaning towards the enemy end of that spectrum as we think about all of the ways phones and devices can be distracting or problematic. However, if we stop and think about it, technology can be a great tool for helping teenagers in their relationships with God and with one another!
CELEBRATING YOUR PARENTING WINS
Celebrating often feels like a fun thing to do when we have extra time, but I would like to make the argument that we would be better off making celebration a priority! There are a million things (big and small) that you have to celebrate as a parent, but often those can feel secondary to all of the responsibilities you have. So let’s pause for a moment and talk about all of the amazing things you can celebrate this week!
HOW TO HELP YOUR TEENAGERS BRING FRIENDS TO CHURCH
First impressions can last a lifetime. Your first meal in a new restaurant will likely determine if you ever return, a tv show pilot will either start a new habit in your life or be the only episode of that show you watch, and a teenager’s first visit to our ministry is crucial to their future opinions. So let’s talk about how we can make it easier for your teenager to bring a friend with them this week.
REMEMBER YOU’RE NOT JUST A BABYSITTER
You wear a lot of hats as a parent.You’ve probably been a driver, chaperone, friend, bank, campfire starter, uniform washer, and emergency room nurse over the years. You do a lot of fun, unique, and unexpected things, but you mean so much more than the long list of tasks that you accomplish! You are so much more than a babysitter or a chaperone and we love doing ministry alongside you!

We believe that you are amazing and qualified to parent the teenagers that you are raising. That being said, even the greatest superheroes accomplish more when they are working with a team. We too often associate asking for help with weakness, when in reality, asking for help makes you (and everyone around you) better!

Have you ever found yourself feeling frustrated because your teenager doesn’t consistently seem to open up with you in conversation? Having conversations with teenagers can be complicated. The structure that leads to a great conversation one day may be a complete dud the next. There is no one solution that will work every time. . . but there are some really helpful tips that are worth trying this week.

You are the coolest parent we know! Now, you may not feel trendy, outgoing, or young enough for teenagers to think you’re cool, but the good news is that every single one of those things matters much less than we tend to think. Whether or not your teenager or their friends ever call you cool, you can be the greatest influence in their life!
